The Shikaku playbook

Try Shikaku at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Cover the board with non-overlapping rectangles, each containing one clue equal to its area. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Check the rule that explains your first action. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Solve ten 5×5 rectangle puzzles. Each clue belongs to exactly one rectangle of the stated area.

Give this approach a try

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Use the example to check your reasoning.

What counts as success

Cover the board with non-overlapping rectangles, each containing one clue equal to its area. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Start here and follow along

  1. Choose a rectangle’s opposite corners.
  2. It must contain one clue and have the matching area.
  3. Click an existing rectangle to remove it.
  4. Cover every square to finish.

Input guidance

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Use one clear input at a time.

See the idea in action

A clue 6 may occupy a 2×3 rectangle when other clues allow it. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Notice the change in the playing area.

A common point of confusion

No rectangle may contain two clues or overlap another. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
